Post Office staff have issued a reminder that the Lockswood branch will be closed from Monday (January 7) as it undergoes a major refurbishment.

Staff apologised that the branch in Locks Heath Centre will be closed for nine days while it gets a makeover – although it will open  ahead of schedule if possible.

As reported previously in The Gazette the refurbishment will include increasing the number of serving positions to five – a mixture of traditional screened counter positions and open plan.

Once the new-look branch reopens on Wednesday January 16 at 9am it will be open from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5.30pm – with an extra five hours on Saturdays.

It will also have a post office serving point at the retail counter available during shop opening hours.

The refurbishment is part of the Post Office plans to modernise its 6,000 branches. Post Office managers said customers should use the Park Gate branch in The Co-operative convenience store in Bridge Road and the post office in The Square, Titchfield during the renovation works at Locks Heath.

A spokesperson for the Post Office said it was unlikely there would be additional staff or extended opening hours at the other branches to accommodate the extra customers during the refurbishment.
